Geometric Variations
Geometric Variations explores an hexagonal tiling where simple geometric rules give rise to complex and shifting patterns.
Each tile is divided into shapes created by straight lines and arcs linking its vertices, forming a visual language of simple geometric rules.
Some arcs extend beyond the boundary of a single tile, suggesting circles that unfold across neighbouring forms. As the tiles repeat and interact, local structures combine to produce larger patterns that emerge across the surface.
The image is built from interleaved transparent layers. Red and blue dominate the palette, occasionally overlapping to produce violet tones, with small appearances of green punctuating the composition.
While many tiles follow strict geometric connections between vertex and centre, others introduce more decorative variations. Even these departures remain governed by the quiet order of six-fold symmetry inherent in the hexagonal form.
This is my first design uising hexagonal Wang tiles.
